At 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Masato Gunji, the 55-year-old boss of a gang affiliated with the Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi, allegedly shoplifted a total of 64 items valued at 25,357 yen, including apples, watermelon and daily necessities, from the store, located in a shopping mall located in Higashi Ward.
Gunji, who has been charged with theft, denies the charges. “I have money, I didn’t do it,” the suspect is quoted by police.
Just prior to the incident, Gunji entered the store with two other gang members and proceeded to fill two baskets with the various items. They then exited the store without paying. A female security guard, 48, subsequently ordered the group to stop after they had loaded the items into their vehicle in a parking lot.
